Unbundled Search

Increasingly, successful human resources organizations are understanding the strategic importance of executive search as a potentially profound organizational intervention. It is not a replacement exercise but an opportunity to enhance organization effectiveness and executive bench strength. As a result many human resources teams are taking on some executive search functions. Typically this is done for two reasons. First, the development of search skills increases their contribution as business partners. Second, they want to capture the organizational learning that direct participation in a search provides. HPI can support this with our unbundled search process by providing a menu of search services. For example:

I. Development of the search specification
  • A search specification is not a job description
  • It reflects considerable research into the position, organizational skill deficiencies, and the behaviors required for both position and cultural success
  • This is the document that defines the direction of all other steps in the search process

II. Research
  • This the first step in sourcing potential candidates
  • Research ensures that passive as well as active candidates are identified
  • It is a step requiring skills and tools often not available in-house
  • It a step that is best performed at arm's length for protection from potential IP infringement claims

III. Candidate Profiling
  • A time consuming step requiring significant senior level participation often not available in-house
  • The product is a slate of qualified candidates who meet the search specification and other assessment criteria established for the position

IV. On-boarding
  • Our on-boarding coaching process is available as a separate service
  • Credible, effective, and confidential on-boarding cannot be done with in-house personnel
  • On-boarding can be the difference between a rapidly effective addition to the executive team or an untimely executive turnover
